Ecology
Understanding the Status and Trends of Ecosystems
•Research – we conduct applied research on the impacts of climate change, fire, and land use on New Mexico’s ecosystems to support management and inform policy.
•Monitoring – we maintain a vegetation monitoring database to support long-term trend analysis of ecosystems across New Mexico and the Southwest.
•Vegetation Classification and Inventory – over the past 25 years NHNM has classified and mapped vegetation on over 2 million acres in New Mexico. We have amassed a database of over 15,000 vegetation plots with over 200,000 plant records.
