General Description
Lynch Tadpole Shrimp (Lepidurus lemmoni) is a large (34-46 mm) freshwater branchiopod that is distributed across the western U.S. and portions of Canada and Mexico. In New Mexico they are found in the Lower Colorado River basin. They inhabit temporary pools, wetlands, and playas in arid and semi-arid regions. They have adapted to their harsh environment by producing eggs that can survive in dormancy during periods of desiccation.
