General Description
Loggerhead Shrike (Lanius ludovicianus) is a medium-sized (20-23 cm), thick-bodied songbird. They are distributed from Mexico to southern Canada in open woodland habitats. They particularly like open habitats with trees and shrubs with spines and thorns, which they use to impale their prey. They feed on insects, amphibians, reptiles, small mammals, and birds, sometimes catching prey as big as themselves.
