General Description

Hacheta Grande Woodlandsnail (Ashmunella hebardi) is a small (shell height 5 mm) montane terrestrial snail that only occurs in the Big Hatchet Peak area of southwestern New Mexico. They are usually found under loose stones at the base of cliffs in areas that have tall pinyon pines (Pinus sp.). They co-occur and sometimes hybridize with the Big Hatchet Woodlandsnail (Ashmunella mearnsii).
