General Description

Yellow-billed Cuckoo (Coccyzus americanus) is a large, long (26-30 cm) bird that breeds across the U.S. and in parts of southern Canada. The western subspecies occurs west of the Rocky Mountains. In New Mexico, they are found in lowland deciduous woodlands, willow and alder thickets, and second-growth woods. They breed in riparian woodlands and similar habitats. They eat insects, lizards, eggs, other birds, and berries.
