General Description
Wrinkled Marshsnail (Stagnicola caperata) is a large (shell length up to 2 cm) freshwater snail that is distributed across the United States and Southern Canada. In New Mexico it occurs in Bitter Lake National Wildlife Refuge (Chaves County), Valles Caldera National Preserve (Sandoval County), and Big Costilla Peak (Taos County). They usually inhabit water sources that are seasonally dry such as ditches, shallow pools, marshes, streams, and ponds. In the lowland habitats the snails cope with hot summers by using areas with vegetative cover and cool water.
