General Description
Mexican Gartersnake (Thamnophis eques) is a medium-sized (1 m total length) gartersnake that is never far from water. They forage in and around streams and eat fish, amphibians, invertebrates, and other small animals. Their range includes disjunct populations in central and southeastern Arizona, southwestern New Mexico, and the highlands of western and southern Mexico.
