Natural Heritage New Mexico conducts various interdisciplinary
research projects, which involve collaborations between scientists
from several disciplines. One type of interdisciplinary project
is the natural resource management plan.
Collaborations with the Department of Defense and the U.S. Fish
& Wildlife Service have provided opportunities to develop natural
resource management plans with an emphasis on conservation. NHNM
integrates database, GIS, remote sensing, and inventory and monitoring
information in the development of these plans to better understand
the complex issues of land management. We assist the managing
agency in establishing responsible stewardship goals to help resolve
conflicts between agency mission and natural resource conservation.
Compliance with the federal, state, and local regulations within
an ecosystem management approach is emphasized. Some of the management
plans include:
- Holloman Air Force Base Integrated Natural Resource Management
Plan (Department of Defense)
- Sensitive Species Management Plan for Holloman Air Force
Base (Department of Defense)
- Weed Management Plans, Maxwell and Las Vegas National Wildlife
Refuges (United States Fish and Wildlife Service)
- White Sands Missile Range Integrated Natural Resource Management
Plan (Department of Defense)
