Lists
of rare plant and animal species are free of charge and can be
accessed on this web site. There may be a charge for copies of
these reports if you choose to request one or more. To request
other information, please write or email our
Information Manager at our program
address.
Requests concerning
environmental review or which require provision of locality information
for sensitive species must be received IN WRITING. An Email communication
will often be sufficient, however, in some instances we will need
to obtain a signed document before final delivery of the information
is possible. Please include the following information in your
information request:
- Return address, phone number, and email address, if applicable.
- Why you need the information (i.e., environmental assessment,
management plan, etc.).
- Brief description of the proposed project or activity (i.e.,
residential development, landfill siting).
- Location information for the project or activity, preferably the project boundary in a GIS shapefile or on a map.
Before submitting a request you may want to see our data
release policy and/or our statement of limitations
inherent to our data.
A note about response
time: Requests for data on ecologically sensitive sites are
processed in the order in which they are received in writing.
Average response time is about two to three weeks from the date
your request is received in our office, but it may be longer if
there is a backlog or if your request does not contain all the
needed information. Since our office receives many requests, we
strongly encourage you to submit your request during the early
stages of a project.
Fees
This fee is designed to recoup our expenditures
of time and resources for preparation of these requests. Our intent
is not to reduce the number of users, but to continue to be financially
solvent, enabling us to offer this information to the public.
- Lists
of rare plant and animal species are free of charge and
can be accessed on this web site.
- Fees are charged for
other requests at the rate of $100.00 per hour. This includes database searches, research, GIS work, and scientist consultation. Discounts are available for non-profit organizations.
- For extensive data sets
(e.g. regional or state-wide coverages) or for more sophisticated
products, there may be additional fees.
- Rush jobs. We
may be able to process your project as a priority job with a
turn around time of less than two weeks. Contact the NHNM Information Manager for availability. For
rushing basic types of information requests, expect the cost
to be double our standard fee.
People, agencies and organizations
who provide NHNM with information for our database or with access
to land and waters may be exempt from charges. Students with reasonable
needs for the information are exempt. If you believe your request
should not be charged, contact the
NHNM Information Manager.
We
Need Your Help!
To continue
building a comprehensive, up-to-date database of information on
the status of rare species and occurrences of significant natural
communities, we need your help. If you have information concerning
any species we track
please contact
us or submit a contribututor
form.
Electronic
Files
We can provide electronic database files in ASCII, Microsoft
Excel, or Microsoft Access formats. We also produce spatial data
files in ESRI formats. Please see our
GIS Standards page for more
information.
